Two Cubs for Shirley, Part 2

By Bernie Koehne

We previously reported on two wooden sculptures of mountain lion cubs that will take up permanent residence on the Roxborough Ranch owned by Colonel Dave and Nancy Goodwin. The cubs are the work of Carver Dave Shelton whose studio is in Idaho Springs. During our last visit to the Roxborough Ranch we observed Dave Shelton picking out the best location for the two cub carvings, which were still in a semi-finished state. After Dave Shelton and Colonel Dave agreed on the exact location, Dave Shelton carved the feet of the cub carvings to fit the intended location on the rock promontory. The cubs will join a similar carving of a female mountain lion, also carved by Dave Shelton, already in permanent residence at the Roxborough Ranch.. Dave Shelton finished the two cub carvings in his studio.
