How to Beat Jet Lag

by Dr. Kelly Minicucci

Jet aircraft travel has allowed the average person to experience the joy of visiting far away places previously unavailable to them. Jet travel has also been the cause for individuals being made miserable by the experience. Even if your destination time zone is only 2 hours ahead, you still may feel the symptoms of “Jet Lag”.

According to a 1994 New Zealand study, jet aircraft travel, traversing international time zones at speeds approaching one mach (speed of sound), may produce a variety of symptoms in 96% of flyers. The symptoms of “Jet Lag” range from fatigue, insomnia, disorientation, nausea, mental confusion, swelling headache and loss of appetite. The symptoms can last from one to ten days, depending on the person.

NASA estimates disturbance to the normal circadian rhythm of the adult body takes approximately one day of recovery per time zone crossed to be completely returned to pre flight functioning.

Dr. John Amaro was given recognition as the first to formulate the concepts of Acupuncture Jet Lag. The concepts come from utilizing the “horary cycle” of meridian flow. There is a General Circulation of Chi in our bodies that occurs every 2 hours. It was reasoned that if one were to reset the body clock utilizing the horary cycle, the body in theory could be made to function at the horary cycle of wherever the person is physically located on the planet. The best part of this theory is that it really worked!

The protocol for utilizing this horary chart is too lengthy to describe in this article, but I would be more than happy to fax anyone a chart and the instructions on how to do use the points. If you are traveling into a different time zone, you may want to utilize this system in order to feel great upon arriving to your destination.
