Maryann Leake

I'm seeking to distill my art work in four areas.
Roxborough landscapes, Floral still life , Forest floors, and Koi ponds.
A portion of my time goes towards developing art for philanthropic
efforts to improve lives through established programs.
My good friend Kathy Beach, a writer, and I are just talking about
creating children's books together. That would be a dream come true for
me.

"Dark Fish below"

I flunked watercolor in college. It is my main thirst today.
I was born in Delaware. I am grateful for the muddy banks and endless
playground of forest it gave me in my own backyard. Exploration of creek
and forest demanded most of my attention. In primary and secondary
education art become as much of a refuge as the forest. I studied
graphics design and advertising at Arizona State University. I joined an
advertising firm and remained in graphic arts until my fine arts became
more ambitious.

I left Delaware in my teens, lived in Puerto Rico for eight years,
entered college in Arizona; worked in Tulsa, Oklahoma in advertising,
married and raised my children in California. I fell in love with
Roxborough, Colorado, where I live with family and
friends. My works have been exhibited in Puerto Rico, Arizona,
California, Colorado, and Washington,D.C.. I earned a signature
membership with the Colorado Watercolor Society.

Watercolor is what I hold in focus. The reaction of the elements are
exciting, air, water, earth, light, shadow, and life. I seek to capture
a small section of nature and add a human touch, breaking the connection
of all the elements. I am saying someone came this way and has left
something for posterity.
Like all artists , what shapes us emerges in our work. For
now, the forest and creek of my childhood is emerging and demanding my
attention today in the form of the landscapes of Roxborough Park.

My husband Mark and I purchased property in Roxborough Park seventeen
years ago and built our house with the help of architect Tom Johnson two years later. My father, George Leake, was so taken
by Roxborough he moved out here with my sister and built his house
before we moved into ours.
