Pencil Drawing of a Wooden Carving

spacer

Shape, depth, color, and the richness of the world around me inspire me to create as an artist. I enjoy puzzling how all the pieces fit together to make the painting or drawing "look" like what I see. I enjoy drawing reflective objects, people, animals and anything that grabs my fancy. At the moment I'm experimenting with serious paintings and whimsical elements to create something that is both beautiful and enjoyable to view. My preferred mediums are acrylic paint and prismacolor pencils - but not generally together. I enjoy the feel of a brush moving accross the canvas, and I love how my pencils blend and combine the waxy colors to create depth, highlights, and shadows. My pencil work in particular is different from what I've seen because I blend the colors until the picture looks more like a painting than a drawing. I rarely use sketchy lines - I prefer a smoother well blended appearance to my work. My artwork is usually self explanatory, with small added details to give the viewer something to explore beyond the main focus of the piece. I will go where my artwork leads me, but it is my goal to become a children's book illustrator with my more serious artwork in galleries. -Christina Nordloh
